Jamaica is a perfect destination where all you need is sun, sand and the ocean

Hey girl, wanna go to Jamaica?

My friend adores Jamaica.  She truly thinks Jamaica is a perfect destination.  I really didn’t know what to expect when my friend invited me to Jamaica.   At that time, it was only my 2nd all-inclusive vacation and my first vacation with another person.   My friend did all the work and I just tagged along for the ride.  Lucky me (thank you).

Iberostar Hotel and Resort in Montego Bay

Iberostar Hotel and Resort in Montego Bay is about an hour from the airport and nestled among other hotel and resorts.   Other than the long and beautiful drive there, all the other hotels and resorts blocked the entire shoreline.  We arrived in the afternoon, jumped in the pool and enjoyed some drinks in the sunset.

It might have been the time we went but it was very quiet and not so busy, but definitely not empty.   The Resort is massive and I think we only stayed on one side of the beach.   I absolutely loved the water, my friend not so much.  I love deep water with big waves, water where you could actually submerge your entire body in and float.  I could have spent all day in that water…if it weren’t for me getting drunk by 11 am and falling asleep on the beach lounger.

The rest of the days, is what I now gather, to be the common all-inclusive experience?  Breakfast, beach, drink, lunch, drink, snack, shower, dinner…drink.

My nose smelled deliciousness
and my legs led the way

As I was making my umpteenth trip to the beachside bar, I noticed them setting up round grills along the beach and I got so excited. My stomach started growling as I was counting down the minutes till lunch time.   Even in the open air, the smell of rice and peas, curry goat, oxtail, fish, grilled corn permeated the resort.   My nose, literally or figuratively, led the way to pure delight.  Normally, I am not one for stuffing my belly when it's extremely hot outside (makes me sick) but I just wanted to enjoy every morsel over and over again.   Being West Indian, the food really hit home with me and I couldn’t have asked for a better lunch.

Jamaica is a perfect destination

I dropped the ball, big time

Unfortunately, I don’t recall much water sports at this resort.  I can’t even recall doing any water sports or activities.  Other than hailing a cab to a store nearby, we didn’t really explore.

I know, I said Jamaica is a perfect destination and I totally stand by my statement.   I know people are there right now, people who go back every year, multiple times a year. It's the place to be my friends.

I have not been back to Jamaica since but I know that when I do, I will make that trip count.  I am already bookmarking, researching and making mental notes on types of activities/excursions available in Jamaica.  No drunk sleeping for this girl, I am going to make the best of it.

  1. This trip still sounds like so much fun! I’ve been to the Bahamas but I am dying to to go Jamaica! I’ve heard it’s beautiful and from what you’ve said all inclusive sounds like the way to go!

  2. I would love to go to Jamaica and relax on the beach. All I think of is coconuts and vanilla shakes … what a perfect place to unwind! Btw … I love the orange dress!

  3. I haven’t been to Jamaica, but love the Caribbean! I could spend all day sitting on the beach, people watching, and eating. The nice thing about all inclusive accommodations is that everything is right at your fingertips.
